Textcast: Denim Chicken Edition

I got tired of writing a new phrase for an UPDATE so I went with Denim Chicken edition…to find out what that means go you should start watching It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

ANYWAY

So this week I have finished another Page which means 10 pages are done! Of course I still have 12 left and a cover to do but hey it’s progress!

I am kind of bummed this week because I realised Wizardworld Philly and well convention season in general is here again and yet again it’s another season where I dont have a table. I could get one for Philly but I wont have the book done and I really want to wait to get a table at a big con until I have the book to promote/sell. I still remember last year telling everyone “Oh yeah I will be here with my book next year…” And of course I am not going to be there. I will be depressed walking around this year and wonder what could have happened if I had my book done and on display there.

I guess it’s my fault for doing so much sidework and so many other conventions instead of just cutting it all out and focusing on my book. I did a lot of Art Shows this past year which was awesome as it let me spread my name and make some new connections and I did Free Comic Book Day (which I may do again this year…) which was even better.

I am hoping that my book is done by September so I can at least hit the tail end of Convention Season which is Baltimore and New York (although the Price for a table in NY is RICOCKULOUS it may be worth it with all the national exposure) I am also planning a ful on Adventure for July 2012 and hitting San Diego Comic-Con!  Who’s comin’ with me??

I cant even answer why the book isnt done yet I want it out so bad at this point I want to get it done and inked by July, that is my deadline and I am putting it out there now so you guys can hold me to it…

IF THE BOOK ISN’T DONE BY THE END OF JULY YOU CAN KICK ME IN THE JUNK.

There, Now I have a deadline and I am not doing anymore sidework that I wasnt asked to do already SO DONT ASK!

My book is my number one focus right now and I am not doing anything art related until it’s done.

I will hit the halfway point hopefully by the end of this weekend which leaves me with 4 months (including July) to finish this and send it to my inker (once my inker has it I am out of the July deadline thing then its all on him!)

If I didnt work a full-time job I would probably have 12 issues done at this point!

Anyway this was a full on ramble for that I am sorry and I reward you with this weeks Flick of the Week which is an awesome rap for one of my favorite films ALIENS…its comedic and silly and awesome and it sounds like Ali G rapping which in itself is pretty cool.

So thats it for this week I was going to put some more but meh I am bummed and busy working on the book so I dont have my junk kicked in.

Textcast: High School Edition

Busy week ladies and gents,
I finished another page in the book over the long weekend, then started the next one!
The page that started with the Kitchen pain in the butt panel is OVER…here it is…

I put Chase’s Mom in Scrubs because well, she’s a nurse and ses going to usually be on-call leaving our hero with lots of time to go do hero stuff!
So now that page is done I started to crack out the next page which was a complicated shot. I had to find a good High School as a model and thanks to google image search I think I found a good one. So I cracked it out and hopefully it looks ok. I cant wait to see it with inks.

So that was my week in Synergy!
When I last left you I was going to NYC to meet Y2J and it was a great time I must say…He was pretty awesome and I think my wife fell in love with him, so overall it was a great day!

So in between reading Undisputed (Jericho’s book) and playing Uncharted 2…I am all un-ed out!
Need more Synergy!
Until next week…

PS…Might be doing more appearances on Free Comic Book Day…stay tuned for more info!

Textcast: Post Turkey Day Edition

I have been insanely busy since my last update…but not in a good way…bah!
I have been doing yard work, taking down and putting up decorations and shopping, the typical post Turkey Day activities so therefore I don’t have too much of an update I did however start roughing out Page 5 so yes I do actually have somewhat of a preview. I started laying it out last week and now you can actually see some of what will be in the empty boxes!
Although I must admit our tree does look pretty awesometastic.

And the dog sure does love it.
But that is beside the point and I will also be doing a full on Christmas Textcast chock full of Holiday goodness so stay tuned for that.
Page 5 SO FAR…

This page is when Chase gets a phone call from his Mom while he is at School and she informs him of some bad news.
When I did get a chance I have been in full on Holiday music mode as well…so in closing I leave you with one of my favorite Holiday cover songs…ENJOY!

Textcast #9 – Free Comic Book Day Wrapup

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday was my big appearance at Free Comic Book Day and I must say it was awesome. The day started off with me sitting with the Philadelphia Cartoonists Society doing some Art and finishing up some pieces I started but never finished. Meeting the Society was interesting as most of them were Art teachers in or around the city itself and seemed like they were deeply devoted to the craft. One of the members who sat with us was the cover artist for the free Shrek comic that came out on FCBD as well. The Society is having a robot art show at BNW all month called Domo Origato so go check it out!

Iron Man Sketch…Sold during the show.

The society left about an hour after I arrived to go to another appearance and the table was mine for a little where I could spread out the prints and get some more attention from the people coming in.  Then they told me Bryan JL Glass, writer of The Mice Templar for Image and soon to have multiple Marvel projects would be sitting next to me. I was nervous. This guy has made it he is living the dream and I figured this would be a chance to ask any questions about conventions or the biz that I had and get some good answers. It turns out Bryan was one of the nicest guys in the business I have ever met. The man worked his ass off to get here and he’s loving every single second of it.  He told me a ton of stuff about which conventions are good and which ones to avoid, and gave me some tips on writing, and told me who is good to get to know in the business and why I should know them.  He taught me a lot and his wife couldnt have been nicer as her wife and mine also connected. Bryan is a great guy and if he is at a convention that you are at, check him out! Also check out his book The Mice Templar here!

Bryans’ wife Judy, Bryan, and My Shoulder

Bryan left around 5 and the table was mine from that point on. After I had the table to myself I got amazing amounts of attention from people coming through the lobby. People complimented my anatomy(which amazed me because I think it needs more work), told me I had good hands, and loved the prints. I made a bunch of new fans of my work and told them to check out the site and to look for Synergy this summer. I did a few sketches, and after I did my last sketch for a super nice guy in a Green Lantern shirt, I started to pack up and head to Franklin Fountain for some awesome Ice Cream.

Overall it was an amazing experience. I remember going to Wizard World Philly last year talking to every artist, asking for as much advice and input I could get, now I am on the other side of the table and everyone is asking me the very same questions. I just told them to never give up your dream, keep going for it, keep reading comics and keep drawing them…eventually it will all fall into place.

Thanks to Brave New Worlds for having me there and to everyone involved it was a blast…Hopefully I can come back next year!

Textcast #8 Things are BOOMING

One word sums it up…

BUSY!
Since I last left you I have been working non stop and neglecting my site…and for that I am sorry but alas I have NEWS!
First of all I have an upcoming appearance!
Saturday May 1st is Free Comic Book Day (if it isn’t on your calendar you should take this time to write it on there now…i’ll wait…) and comic book stores all over the globe will be celebrating said day by giving out uh…free comic books. Each retailer usually has exclusive books you can only get that day and upcoming indy artists put out books for free that day as well and parties go on across the board. Well if you go to Brave New Worlds Comics in Old City, Philadelphia, you will be able to get sketches from ME!  That’s right, I will be helping the crew at BNW celebrate Free Comic Book Day with a bunch of other local artists and other special guests throughout the day.

I will be there with exclusive art prints, sketches, and of course my portfolio for everyone to see…so come grab some free comics and get a sneak peek at SYNERGY!
I will also be there handing out Synergycomic postcards for anyone that comes to the table and checks me out Heres a preview of what they will look like…
